Basic Troubleshooting

If your service suddenly stops for no apparent reason, you might try resetting both your router/switch and the radio transmitter equipment. Re-setting is easily done by just unplugging it from the power source for about 10 seconds and then plugging it back in. If it doesn’t work the first time, then there is no need to repeat. The problem must be somewhere else.

If you are having to reset a lot, then there is probably either a problem with the equipment or the power source has major fluctuations. This can be corrected with a proper stabilizer. If you continue to have problems, give us a call and ehlp you on the telephone or send out an engineer.

Stabilizers & UPS

The electricity provided by PLN is often unstable with frequent outages and significant fluctuations in the current and voltage. This can cause major problems with sensitive computer and communications equipment. Common symptoms are "hangs" requiring frequent resets, or damage to the equipment. All computers and communications equipment (radios, routers, switches) must be on a protect electrical circuit. Also abrupt shutdown can case a loss of data.

A stabilizer evens out the voltage so that it remains constant at 220v. A Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) provides backup power in case of a power outage. The more advanced types of UPS's called "Double Conversion/Online" also provide stabilized power so you only need the UPS and not both. We only recommend this type of UPS.

The size of the UPS must be scaled to the power consumption of the equipment that you have on the circuit. For a single computer a 500W UPS will give you about 1/2 hour of backup power. Usually you don't put non critical equipment, such as printers, on the UPS circuit because they shorten the backup time. This is particularly the case with laser printers which have heaters in them which consume a lot of power.

The whole idea of backup power is to prevent damage to your equipment or data that can be caused by an abrupt power shut down. So be sure to shut down your computers before the UPS backup power runs out.

Viruses & Threats Protection

The importance of having good virus protection on all of your computers cannot be stressed enough. When you are connected to the internet you are in fact connected to all of the other 1 billion internet users around the world.

Some people think that they don't have to worry because no one would be interested in their data. But those that write viruses, don't really care who you are. Their viruses are indiscriminate and can cause hard drive crashes, system failures, and violate your privacy. They can scan you computers for bank accounts, passwords and other valuable information, without you even knowing it.

Viruses can come from emails, websites, and downloaded or copied files.

For your virus & threats protection we recommend:

You can also get basic free anti-virus programs at:

For companies we recommend a central corporate virus protection system which will automatically keep all of your computers protected.

Call SatNetCom today and start getting protected. We can do an entire virus clean up on all of your computers and install the necessary protection.
